Hello,
I'm trying to do a telnet install of rh9. I've done this before in rh8,
but the procedure appears to have been changed for 9. If i boot from CD,
then at the prompt do:
text telnet
it fires up. I'll get to my network card in a minute. If however i use
the floppies, boot.img and pcmciadb.img, because in this instance i can't
use a boot rom, i enter the same thing:
text telnet
i'm never asked for the drivers disk, it goes right in to the install.
Also, on my network card, it has media autodetection difficulties so i
have to put a parameter in /etc/pcmcia/network.opts, think that's the
file:
module "xirc2ps_cs" opts "if_port=4"
what i was wondering is would it be possible to pass the if_port=4 to the
nic also on the commandline?
Suggestions welcome.
Thanks.
Dave.

Not sure about the if_port=4 parameter, but the driver disk issue can be
resolved by including thd dd parameter on the boot command line.

Footnotes are for things you believe don't really belong in LDP manuals,
but want to include anyway.

Silent and Ever So Small, a Computer for Simple Tasks
By IAN AUSTEN
In the fiercely competitive computer world, manufacturers offer many
claims to distinguish their products. Andrei Bulucea, a project
manager at Ituner Networks, has a particularly striking boast for the
Mini-Box M100: "It's completely silent. If you need to sleep with a
computer, this is what you want."
While it is not intended to be a portable computer in the conventional
sense, the Mini-Box is as small as its name suggests, measuring
roughly 8 by 8 by 1 inches. The computer (available for $496 at
www.mini-box.com) is supplied with a Linux operating system stored on
a Compact Flash memory card. But it can run Windows if a laptop hard
disk is slipped into a built-in slot.
A tiny liquid-crystal display panel and 14 keys allow users to control
the computer, but there are standard outlets for a full-size keyboard,
a monitor and other peripherals.
Mr. Bulucea suggested that people could use the Mini-Box for
specialized "start and stop" tasks like switching home security on and
off. Because the tiny computer requires only a 12-volt power supply,
it could be easily integrated into a car, he added.
"It's for consumers who are fed up with big, clumsy computers," he
said.

Well, I don't know the specific answer, (you can
probably look it up as well as I can) and the syntax
is possibly different, but there is a BootPrompt-HOWTO
which has an incredible wealth of this kind of info,
and references to other documents that have similar
info. See http://linuxdoc.org/docs.html#howto for
current versions.
