Hi,
does the BRLTTY program work with the Alva 544 Satellite, connected via USB?
I have this Braille display at work and would like to know if I can install
Linux here.
thanks

It works via the serial port, but not via USB yet.

It works with a serial conection for sure. If the USB protocol used is one
that emulates a serial device then it should work too. Otherwise it won't
work unless the USB programming documentation is made available from Alva
and a specific driver is written for it.

It is not. I tested this with a 570.
They use some custom chip, 've been told by a AT industry friend of mine
that they even use a separate protocol for USB.

OTOH, the built in HUB is recognized and works fine.

Well... At Tieman they were kind enough to loan a Voyager braille terminal
and to provide the USB protocol information for a Linux driver to be
written. Maybe Alva can be convinced to do the same if someone has a good
contact there?

Hello!

Some time ago I asked Alva for information on the parallel port protocol,
with no success. For me it seems they don't want their braille terminals
used with Linux. At least the serial port prototol is documented...
