Well, I was able to download from the demo page at www.bookshare.org but when I
read about
downloading it talked about an "unpack tool" to be used with copyrighted books
because they are encrypted. so I wrote to webmaster@bookshare.org about that.
I'm not putting out $75 uless i know it is going to work for me.
 then I searched
and found
the story of my life by Helen Keller. Tried to download the ascii text file.
Here's the note i sent to the speakup list that shows what happened:

Well, just tried to download "the story of my Life' by Helen Keller in Ascii
text. Just used the links. Got the following filename suggestion when I used the
"d" for download in lynx:
Error.html?errorid=-1001&page=Download.html&line=34

So I just tried hitting enter on the link. Here's what I got:

web error -1001

The most likely cause of this error is typing in the URL or bookmarking a page
that must be navigated to in a controlled manner.
While it is usually allowable to type in or bookmark a URL, some pages are
protected to avoid displaying incorrect information on the page.

This error occurred in Page Download.html.
This error occurred on line 34.
If you're seeing this page, then either your actions were unexpected by the
website or there was an internal website error. Please review your last few
actions to see if there was something unusual, and report the problem to
webmaster@bookshare.org.

Which I just did!
But I am really starting to get upset.

Just sent that information to webmaster@bookshare.org.
Maybe this is just an error, but I had tried before and gotten the same error.
Aren't there enough accessibility issues out there without blind people doing it
to other blind people?
I don't want to jump to conclusions; maybe it isn't lynx/linux related but it
looks suspicious.
Is anybody successfully downloading books (either copyrighted or public domain)
from bookshare, other than the demo page?
Also, can anybodytell me if work is going on re: DAISY software for linux?
Bookshare was talking about the victor reader, but i haven't heard of anything
that we can use yet.
TIA.
