I put the "ifcfg-eth1" back where it belongs, with "ONBOOT" st to "no". No difference. Thanks for your general observations. Turns out, I have a router which can do the PPPOE part for me. I put the network scripts back the way I found them, rebooted, and am now connected throuth this device. -Dave
