Subject: RE: the Papenmeir device that was supposed to be coming out
Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2001 14:44:27 -0500 (EST) [thread overview]
Message-ID: <Pine.LNX.4.33.0111131441150.6158-100000@toccata.grg.afb.net> (raw)

Oh, that device!
I never thought of it as Korean! <grin> Not from Arizona.
Anyway, it was delayed, but it is not dead. With a little luck, it will
drive the price point on such devices well below $1,000. If this device
doesn't do it, another one will within a year or two. I expect that, and I
expect to see competition in devices below $1,000.
The days of ultra expensive devices are all but over. And, the days of
nothing but text files are over as the Papenmeier/Alva shows.
Here's what devices today should be expected to do:
Read, edit, file, mail.
Browse the web
Edit documents
Print or braille documents
Play music
Read NISO/DAISY Digital Talking Books
Anybody who doesn't do the last one won't have a market in about 18
months.
