Hi all,

I've a big problem. i have a compaq laptop and I try to install viaVoice to
use emacspeak in this notebook. Unfortunatly when I try to run viaVoice with
a sample the voice speak just one or two words and then stop without
displaying any error. A friend in my LUG thinks that my soundcard chip is
uncompatible with viaVoice. Have you ever encounter this problem and what do
you think about my friend's idea ?
thanks al in advance.

Nath

Ad far as I am aware, ViaVoice will only work with the OSS sound drivers
for older sound cards like the SB/16 and the AWE 32/64 cards. ViaVoice
doesn't work with the ALSA sound drivers. Who knows what kind of sound
card you have in a laptop, probably some kind of on-board sound chip that
is proprietary. Good luck. Maybe someone else can help you.

Well, it works for me with ALSA on a IBM Thinkpad T20 with a Crystal Sound
audio chip onboard.
The audio icons do not work, but ViaVoice most certainly does work.
