Hi.
Just wanted to pass this on to you all:
O'Reilly sends their books as ASCII files to you if
you send them a certification of your disability.
This is a really great offer, much like the offer of the german
Computer magazine c't, because they give you the book
as ASCII for free, if youprovide them with a certification
that you are blind.
CYa,
Mario
P.S.: They also have books on CD in HTML format:
Perl CD Bookshelf, UNIX Bookshelf, Networking Bookshelf and
Oracle Bookshel.

I emailed O'Reilly and this is the answer I got. I contacted them an am
awaiting word of acceptance into the program.
The columns offered on our site pretty much cover the role we're able to
play in providing ascii versions of O'Reilly content to blind users:
http://www.oreilly.com/ask_tim/brail_books.html
http://www.oreilly.com/ask_tim/tts_format.html . I'm including here a
recent email from Lenny Muellner to a teacher of the blind in India.
Perhaps it will fill in any gaps for you:
"Our policy on providing access to our books to blind users is this: I'll
be glad to give individual students (that's *give*; we don't charge for
this service) ascii versions of our books as long as we own the copyright
to the ones you ask for (we do for most of our books, but not all of them)
and as long as we actually have the source (for instance, we don't have it
for Mastering Regular Expressions) and lastly, if we don't already have it
available as an online book.
"All a student will have to do is two things: provide me with a
certification of his/her disability from some recognized institution for
the blind or from a physician; this can be FAXED to me at [US COUNTRY CODE
GOES HERE]-617-661-1116 or mailed at the address under my signature; and we
need the student to agree to use what we provide only for him or herself,
not to share it with others. I'll provide the student with a password to a
secure ftp site and I'll give instructions about how to access it once I
get the paperwork, the consent to the conditions outlined, and a request
for a book.
