Hello.
I'm currently helping a visually handicaped friend to install linux.
We now reached the problem, that I couldnt really find useful
magnification tools for Linux for him.
Does someone here have experience with Magnification under Linux (Console
& X)
If you got any tip what program or modification of configuration we could
use to reach about 2/1 or 3/1 magnification please send me a mail.
Regards,
Mario

If you are running X then fonts can be specified as large sizes. Xview, an
dprobably many othe programs, allow you to rescale images. It is not a
perfect solution, but should be a good start. (Navigator, on the other
hand, tends to do everything with tiny fonts, which makes life pretty
miserable. One of the reasons why Lynx is my primary browser...)

i'd refer you to look in two places to start.

Is there a large print program which works under Linux, like Zoomtext for
Windows '95. Thanks.

Hello.

But these means configuring any and every program. Not very handy.
Isn't it easier to configure X to use, say, a 320x240 physical
resolution and a 1024x768 virtual one? Then you can just shift the
virtual screen in the physical one by pushing with the mouse on the
sides. I run at 1024x768, and when I switch to a 640x480 physical
screen it looks already already decently magnificated.
For the console, I'd use SVGATextMode. The distribution already includes
some "bigfont" modes: 50x15, 40x15, 40x12. This is not real magnification,
just using a small terminal on a big screen
