Interresting problems with email under Debian.
I had my system working perfectly with email and Pine both sending and
receiving over concentric.net.
I recently movde from the states to Canada and was able to keep the same
provider, so you would think the connection would stay the same.
Well, I can send messages fine, but I seem to be having problem receiving
them. Here's the error
fetchmail: 1 message at martinfc@smtp.concentric.net
reading message 1 (697 bytes fetchmail: smtp connect to (null) failed
fetchmail: smtp transaction error while fetching from smtp.concentric.net
Now what could have changed? I deleted sendmail and reinstalled it. I
then uninstaled it and installed smail, still same error. The wierd thing
is that I didn't have to change anything in windows 95 except the phone
number of course. Any ideas? I want to use pine again. Mind you eudora
for windows 95 is pretty nice.
Regards,
Martin Courcelles

Hmmm, it seems that there are better places to post this thread than
blinux-list. What about comp.os.linux.networking?
Enjoy!

Um, what makes it hard is that you haven't told us your mailer or how
you have it configured. I checked your message headers and the mailer
doesn't appear there either. Strange...
I'm using Mutt. My email appears in:
/var/spool/mail/$USER
My ISP is a POP3 server and Mutt picks up mail fine; I told it the
pop_user and pop_host. My problem is the opposite of yours: I can't send
out anything. The ISP tells me I should send through smtp.comcast.net
but I can't find where to insert that name. Strange because I had no
problem on Red Hat 8.

Please don't reply to this message on the list, as for some reason I won't
receive it.
I have just switched my server computer where my mail is hosted and where
all my other servers are running from Slackware to Red Hat 9. I love Red
Hat, but I am having a couple of problems.
Firstly, I can send mail from my local mailbox, but I can't receive mail.
I have sent message after message from a mailbox that is hosted remotely
in an attempt to test whether or not I am receiving mail, and every one of
them have gotten lost somewhere in cyberspace. Also, I get the message
every now and then that says "spurious 8259A interrupt: IRQ7." and the
message seems to display at times when I probably should have received an
email message. Also, when I try to test to be sure I don't have an open
relay by telnetting to relay-test.mail-abuse.org, I get a connection error
that says
/proj/maps/bin/in.relaytest: socket failed [Bad file descriptor]
I don't know if all of these things are related, but as you can see, it
looks like a very serious problem. If anyone knows how to fix this
problem, please respond to this email offlist at prince77@myrealbox.com as
I am able to receive mail at that address with no problems.
Thanks for the help
