did ya try fetchmail -v to watch if your sendmail is using the proper helo
protocol.
seems to me that you connected to them , but the server then reconnects to
your sendmail daemon to transfer the mail to your box.
i not sure bout this but i tested and watched my mail as it was processed and
didnt notice anywhere cept that that it may have occured.

Yeah, I just tried that and everything seems okay. I get logged in, the
password is accepted and everything. It did mention something about helo
though and stil gave the transcction error. The messages do not get
deleted, just marked as read. What could have changed that would trip the
whole proc ess?

Hello Martin,
Maybe it is a stupid remark, but are you sure there is an MTA (sendmail
or smail) listening to port 25 on your system? fetchmail expects that.
