Which are the best versions to run with speech?

What is the relationship between emacs-speek, festival, and screenredit?

I am just starting, looking for a linux to install, so need pointers to
detailed setup instructions.

Thanks.

There is lots of info about Linux in general, at http://www.linuxnow.com/
This site is one of most complete you can find anywhere, which links
to just about any other site of consequence.

You would particularly want to see the howto section at:
http://www.linuxnow.com/docroot/html/
and especially the Access-HOWTO and Emacspeak-HOWTO, the latter at:
http://www.linuxnow.com/docroot/html/Emacspeak-HOWTO.html

If you have access to an already installed linux system, or
a CD with linux on it (these can be purchased for just a few
bucks from www.cheapbytes.com, and others) you will likely find
these HOWTO's in the doc section (usually /usr/doc, on an installed
system), or in a /doc dir on the CD.

And don't overlook the blinux archive at leb.net
