hey guys,
I'm looking for a good alternative in Voice over IP software.
Previuosly I used the now decease Speak-Freely packages which was
available for windows and linux.

Now I'm actually looking for a good console client which can i.e. be used
voor the Free World Dialup service <http://www.freeworlddialup.com/>
and therefore has to support SIP at least.

The only software I could find was kphone, but that's KDE-stuff :(
any help is very welcome.

Several of the Speakup gang are using Asterisk:

http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+linux+distributions

It may also be useful to look at GNU Bayonne.

http://www.gnu.org/software/gnue/tools/bayonne.html

You would need either gnopernicus or orca to access Bayonne directly.
The package author is accessibility friendly, though.

Well...I tried posting this question before, but forgot that I didn't change my Email address.

Does anyone have a document on how to configure Asterisk to use a
soundcard and FWD?

It's a Python based scripting test bed for screen reading. It interfaces to gnome-speech and is written by the same author as gnome-speech, Marc Mulcahy.

Currently, it's only available via CVS from the Gnome repository.
