Sorry for the nitpicking, but this is not entirely correct. Linux is "just" the kernel. GNU tries to offer a complete unix-like environment (and more) not based on one kernel. Hence, GNU programs are also found on BSD-like systems and even windows. GNU/Linux would be the appropriate name. Also, GNU is not the license nor copyright. More info on GNU can be found at http://www.gnu.org. IMHO GNU/Linux combines the best of the other unices; flexibility, hardware support, POSIX-compliancy etc. UNIX is too big a term to be compared to Linux as Linux is part of a unix-like system. Migrating to another type of unix should generally not be too difficult though there are some minor differences. IMO it's useless to discuss these here. Some people like these small differences, some don't. This is very personal, so the best option is to try it yourself and determine what you like best. Regards, xander
