First, a getty must be started on the desired serial port in the /etc/inittab file. There is also a file that contains a list of ttys for wich logins are allowed in /etc... I don't remember the name. The serial tty (ttyS0 for example) have to be in there. But, I think that there is also an easier way. When bootdisk and rootdisk are loaded, you may login as root and start a getty process by hand on the serial port as follow: agetty 38400 ttyS0 vt100 You may be careful and type that without seeing wyat you type.
