Does anyone on this list know if K6 and K62 processors can run Linux and
just as important will they run any speech synthesizers? I may have an
opportunity to try one of these chips out
and replace the Intel processor in a machine rather soon and a contact I
have
who could help me with the project doesn't want to have to remove the chip
once it's in because it won't work.

They should run things jsut fine. I've got a Cyrix 233 MX, and it ran
slackware just fine when I was playing with it, so I don't see why the AMD
wouldn't either.

Read the Linux hardware compatibility HOWTO, especially the section on
processors, which mentions certain CPU's that contain bugs for which it
has not been possible to find a solution (apparently the kernel developers
have included features which avoid the bugs relevant to particular
processors).
