No problem, modprobe speakup_ltlk in my /etc/rc.d/rc.local file does work. I had to go in as single user and modprobe speakup_ltlk to get speech going after login, and spent some time earlier hacking with mkinitrd given the speakup instructions for the statement in the speakup-HOWTO file and never did figure out how to get that to work as documented. I'll try that again with the fc2-speakup-HOWTO when I manage to upgrade the system to fc2 using yum, maybe it will work then.
