Hi,
Does anyone have some directions for setting up Samba to be a server just for one Windows 2000 PC?
I would think there is some installed docs if nothing else but cannot find these.
Any tips on how to find documentation in general is welcome.
I am running Redhat 7.3.
Thanks.

http://www.samba.org would be the first place to look for information.
Local documentation for Samba is under
/usr/share/swat and
/usr/share/doc/samba-2.2.1a
in RedHat distribution.

Travis,
If you installed Samba from the CD's, you should have plenty of
documentation. Samba is controled by the smb.conf file in the /etc/samba
directory. You will want to read the man page on smb.conf. It works best
to use the info command, since this is much more flexible than the old
man command. Try typing info smbconf. You will also want to read about
smbclient, which can be used to query the Windows machine.
This subject was discussed quite extensively a few weeks ago. You might
want to look in the list archives.

Hi
Have you seen the documentation on Linux Newbie org? I think you need
to find the network link and there's a easy step by step guide for
samba.

Hi,
Yes I did find a how-to on LinuxNewbie.org. However it seems for an older version. I ran into problems when it started talking about a file called /etc/inetd.conf. My RedHat 7.3 installation is lacking this file. No idea why.

Red Hat has not used that file for some time. Rather, there's a
directory tree in /etc/xinetd.d/
You should enable swat which you will in that directory. In my
opinion, it's far and away the best way to configure your samba
server, and there's item specific help for each question on the
swat web pages.
PS: You use swat by http connection to localhost:901. I have
always just used lynx to fill out the swat form.
