hello!
yes, it detects my card.
it sas pci audio something.
it is made by intel corporation.
so, it finds this card ok.
now the trouble is to get the card to work.
i'll try to get the info in a file if i can and send it to youif you need
it.
also, can you send me the latest suse-blinux version as an attachment ot me
if it doesn't is too large.
i know that you are developing it.
have a nice day all blinuxers!

Hi!
The detection of your soundcard is not a matter of YaST, I think its
alsa related. Just try the command
alsaconf
as root, thats exactly the same command whitch is executed by YaST. Also
you could try the command
hwinfo --sound
to let the system look, if your soundcard is detected automaticly...
Please send me the output, maybe I can help you.
What SuSE-version are you using? What kernel is installed on your
system? Normaly all alsamodules are included in the distri, also the
oss-modules. Have you ever used the soundcard with linux before and are
you shure, that this card is supported?

Schoeppi

That would be helpfull. Just do a
hwinfo --sound > cardinfo
and send the cardinfo file to me.

You can get the newest source-rpm here:
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/8.2/suse/src/sbl-2.0-84.src.rpm

No, I'm not the developper, I just help Marco in some things. Marco
Skambraks (marco@suse.de) is writing the code for sbl.
Best regards,

hello!
I have tried the steps you told me but I still have problem.
these are the steps i done
first I unpacked the kernel source.
tar -zxf linux-2.5.54.tar.gz
then i typed make make menuconfig.
in menuconfig i configured my kernel with sound support, usb and braille
voyager support.
the rest of the kernel stuff i needed selected I as loadable modules except
for the filesystems, paralell and serial ports , keyboard cd and floppy
drive.
then i saved my cnages.
then i typed make dep.
i got a message saying that it was nothing to be done with dep.
then i typed make modules and make modules_install.
and that worked.
then i tried two ways.
first of all i tried to make a bzImage.
and it ended upp with that my kernel was too big to fit on a floppy drive.
for some reason iI don't have a /usr/src/linux directory.
why do you think i don't have one?
then i searched a bit and found the linux kernel in t the arch/i386/boot
subdirectory of the kernel source.
i copied the bzImage to my loadlin directory and tried to load linux wiht
the command i always use.
but the system didn't boot.
I thought that this was a bz image and my system had trouble with booting
such ones so i tried to make a zimage install.
but i got the message that my system was too big.
and i should try modules or a bzImage.
iI don't believe that I have compiled a real kernel.
i have also tried the samme with the make oldconfig but with no sucsess.
what is wrong with my kernel compilation?
thanks in advance
kristoffer

It is usually best to do make mrproper
which is a more extensive clean
But it will delete your .config so if
you want to keep it, copy it elsewhere
then copy it back in.
If you want to compile a kernel using
an old .config file, you can do a
make oldconfig
So let's say you grab a kernel from
ftp.kernel.org. I always do this:
make mrproper
make config
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
If you save your .config file and want
to a completely fresh compile, do
make mrproper
copy the .config to /usr/src/linux
make oldconfig
make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
