Has anyone here ever used or installed minix 3 and how accessible is it?

No clue on accessibility, but yes I have heard of minix in one of its
earlier incarnations. For a while I worked in a Naval Research facility
and the management in the department in which I work decided to install
minix base-wide. The result was disasterous and nearly got our
department shut down.

I read about it and looks interesting. Its supposed to be compatible
with the stuff from netbsd but I don't know how it differs from the
linux kurnel.

Probably not much.
First, you'd need a sighted help to install minix 3.
Then according to their website a sighted person would need
to install packages from the netbsd collection:
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/current/pkgsrc/README-all.html
There are some (rather old) a11y packages in this collection, mostly
orca & deps: at-spi*, speech-dispatcher, espeak... But not brltty, and
not speakup (obviously, as speakup in a linux driver) so only a desktop
will be accessible, I think.
Best,
Didier
