Subject: debian install?
Date: Tue, 02 Dec 2003 14:02:43 -0600 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <6.0.0.22.2.20031202135521.01b70580@wiscmail.wisc.edu> (raw)
I'm trying to do a serial console install of debian, booting from floppies
and getting the installation files over the network.
Actually, I think you'd have the problem I'm having no matter how you did
the install. I have installed the base system.from a local mirror. At that
point, you're supposed to reboot. This I did and the new system booted off
the hard drive. But at that point it runs another installation program
where you're supposed to do stuff like enter a root password, etcetra. But
it was not talking to the serial console.
So I rebooted from the diskette and set it up so that it would use the
filesystem on the hard drive as the root. This worked. I got text on my
serial console and it ran the second half of the install program from the
hard drive. Only problem is that it's not waiting for keyboard input. the
prompts speed by as if I'm holding down the enter key.
Has anyone done a serial console installation of debian? How did you deal
with the second half of the installation process after rebooting from the
new system?
