The day you posted this, I clicked the download link and got to a page that had a bunch of files for download. I wasn't sure which one I needed so I figured I'd download several of them and figure it out later. But now I'm getting 404 Not found errors when I click the links. I've already tried on 3 different machines. I thought maybe IBM set a cookie or something to allow you only one download. Now my theory is that they shut down the site when they realized it was being hit. Maybe somebody else should give it a try. I've attached the page again to this message. I browsed the archives of the viavoice developers list and someone asked the same question I had -- where's the linux sdk? The writer even speculated that it had been withdrawn just as I had. The web page for the linux sdk says merely that the sdk is available for many platforms. But there's nothing to download. >From: Janina Sajka >The attached web page will put you on the path of getting ViaVoice. ViaVoice text-to-speech (TTS) technology uses the latest in linguistic technologies to synthesize speech. More than just a simple reader, ViaVoice TTS is a sophisticated technology that goes through several high level linguistic stages to create highly intelligible speech output. Rather than using small snippets of actual spoken recordings and gluing them together, the formant technology takes advantage of a synthesizer to generate the final sounds that we hear. The attributes of this technology are that it is highly intelligible, and, because it is totally generated by the computer, is very flexible and requires fewer system resources. It can accommodate an unlimited number of voices by modifying the gender, pitch, headsize, roughness, etc., and all of these attributes can be modified on the fly.
