"I'd like to mention that Dalnet #Linux is trying to start a
movement to get Linus Torvalds voted man of the century. The
Concept is to have Time see a massive grass roots movement, and
give at least an honorable mention to Linux. If we were able to get
1 million votes for Linus, it would certainly get notice. That
would be about 1 in 5 Linux users. The poll is here. We'll have a
web page up hopefully tomorrow for it."
http://www.pathfinder.com/time/time100/time100poll.html is the URL for
voting. Put Linus to the Builders and Titans category if you're going to
participate.

Hi,
I just couldn't help but respond to this one but before there was a Linux and
before Linus received any fame, there was a GNU at the vanguard of free
software. Richard Stallman, rms to his friends, wrote emacs and insisted it
be free.
Since then GNU grew into the Free Softwre Foundation and rms remains its
president. If one looks at the volume of software distributed on CDs labeled
"Linux" they will find that close to 90% of the source code comes from Project
GNU. Programs we've come to rely upon like emacs, gcc, gdb, bison, bash and
many others are not Linux, they are GNU.
Those of us who use emacs-speak must remember that it could not exist without emacs.
