Can't you just remove everything that depends on it, as we can't use
anything that uses it's interface anyways.

That's why the howtos are tough for anything I want to do, because I don't
know, in debian which script to initialize bootup things from, especially,
if I ever decide to network, to transfer files between my computer and my
laptop, or for better net access, or both, there's only a configuration for
this stuff on install, and I'm well beyond install, with many more files
than the base system came with, wonder if I should switch from exim to
sendmail, so I can have multiple alias files, at least the howtos for mail
related stuff seems geared towards sendmail, exim is somewhat compatible,
but not the config file, a default debian install seems to not allow
connections on localhost, as I tested my own telnet service with telnet
localhost, and it said no route to host, I use the same hostname as
zipspeak, so I've copied over it's /etc/hosts, /etc/hosts.allow, and
/etc/hosts.deny, as otherwise it seemed to be the ultimate firewall, not
allowing much of any inbound connection, although ipchains wasn't set up,
don't remember what the fix was, but it works now, I don't want to delete
and reinstall just to add something like a net card to the system, if that
becomes necessary. All the howtos seem to be geared towards redhat
specifically, making new scripts may not load stuff at the right time in
the bootup, if I make new files in /etc/init.d.

Maybe it was "tcl/tk" I was refering to? If you've installed "tcl"
and "tclx", you're covered. Also, it's a good idea to install
"emacsinfo.tgz" and "emacslisp.tgz". The first is the hypertext
documentation for Emacs and some of its extensions. The installation
process for Emacspeak will add to this collection. The second is the
lisp source code for the emacs extensions. Not sure it's needed, but
"better to have and not need than to need and not have".:-)
A list of required and suggested packages is a wonderful idea! Such
lists should, at least, be in the 'README' and the Emacspeak how-to.
Maybe there can be some distribution-specific instructions, at least
for Redhat, Slackware, and Debian?

Cheryl:
Many thanks for all your kind words. My memories of all the
frustration of getting Emacspeak to work are fresh. I still have some
work to do with the emacs w3 client. that's for another suite of
messages. The file including the doubletalk server is
"emacspeak-ss-1.7.tar.gz". You'll find it in the blinux file archive.

All this is is some shared libraries that x programs can depend on, but are
often not needed when using emacs through emacspeak, or realplayer through
trplayer, it's just something to satisfy dependencies, if I were to
uninstall linux, any package that starts with x besides xbin and xlib can
be eliminated, you probably don't need x-free86, although I have it, in an
unconfigured state, which is fine to get real player going.

The file should be called something like emacspeak-ss-1.5.tar.gz. Simply go
to ftp:/leb.net/pub/blinux and look there.
