I am running stretch (debian 9.6)
I attempted to follow the instructions linked above.
1. Add
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian buster-backports main
to /etc/apt/sources.list
2. apt-get udpate
3. Got this message:
W: The repository 'http://ftp.debian.org/debian buster-backports Release' does not have a Release file.

You actually rather want stretch-backports.
buster-backports will be the packages backported to buster (which is not
released yet)

The package is actually numbered linux-image-4.18.0 for compatibility
with previous uploads.

I have an Esata card which debian 9.6 (kernel 4.9.0-8) doesn't seem to see. I want to upgrade to the newest stable kernel, 4.14, to see if that works.
What would be bhest method for doing this. Build from source using debian's .config? Or, perhaps, would I be best installing a rolling release like arch and see if that works.
