Talking to Devin, it does at least require an addressable terminal connected to the serial port. https://twitter.com/freebsdfrau/status/1072915779476107264 This could either be another computer via a null modem cable, or if you have a hardware TTS/Braille terminal that is usable in some sort of VT100 emulation, then it should be doable. If so, for the price of one of them and an accessible distro on it like F123lite if you haven't got a braille display these distros may possibly be installed with speech screen readers too. If the raspberry pi only does serial through usb, such an attempt might work but would be questionable. The RPi has built-in serial pins, but they only output 3.3V, not the 12V required for RS232. There's a good summary here: https://elinux.org/RPi_Serial_Connection but the short summary is that, if the other end (the PC) can handle the 3.3V communications, then it's easy with a couple parts.
