Hello, yesterday I downloaded the floppies .img files from debian's site, modified on 7th May 2006, so very recently!
This morning I tried to boot the computer with these floppies (boot, root, net-drivers and cd-drivers, following the exact order) but despite I had included the brltty parameter the first time, and the brltty=va parameter the second time, nothing happened and no braille appeared on my Baum Vario 40!
At this point, I think also to another thing, especially because Debian installation is text-only.
So, how can a blind person with a braille display install debian on his/her own, obviously not using speakup?

Many thanks

Stefano

Hi,

blinux-list@_redhat_.com is not necessarily the best place for debian
installation stuff ;)

You can try my non-official netinst image at
http://brl.thefreecat.org/mini.iso

It includes brltty 3.7.2 with autotodetection of usb devices (i.e. with
usb devices you just need to boot the CD with braille device
pluggued-in). Serial devices need you to type

install brltty=va

for instance, at the syslinux prompt.

Official images should work this way soon (when the mips buildd admin
wakes up).

Samuel

The first parameter has to be linux followed by a space followed by any
other parameters. If you already did that, you probably need to do the
download again, the internet corrupted your images on the way to your
computer or maybe you didn't use new floppy disks already formatted and
verified.

For those who are looking for a very easy and console-friendly d-i, have
now a look at the BlinDIA Project Web Page:
	http://freshmeat.net/projects/blindia

the goal is to offer a new/alternate (portable) Debian Installer who
can be launched from within a running "Live-on-CD" distribution, while
your braille display already runs.

The current grml-inst_plain_deb-0.2.1 release is stable and just asks 3
questions before it retrieves files and starts then the base-config.

Requirements and more info at the FM URL above, or at:
	http://brlspeak.net/blindia.php

See http://brl.thefreecat.org/ : I don't build them myself any more
since my patches got included. Follow the link to official daily build.
