Hi.

I admit this message is kind of off-topic, but I gather people
here should know this. I'm trying to locate a vendor which
sells a DECtalk Express, and would ship that world-wide (I'm located
in Europe).

Any hints would be very appreciated.

Hi, Mario:

To the best of my knowledge the DEC Talk Express is no longer available
new anywhere. I know of a few places that have some broken ones around
that they use for repairs. My best guess would be Ebay.

Have G.W. Micro and Maxi Aids stopped carrying the Dectalk Express?

I have one which I purchased from G.W Micro about 3 or 4 years ago.

I have a broken one here, not sure what's wrong with it, could be as simple
as the battery, really. I know a lot of these type of devices with internal
batteries will not function on AC power if the battery is completely shot,
Speakouts do, and I know Braille 'n Speaks won't function without a
functional battery. Someone had this dectalk around, as I needed the cable
for it as mine was broke, but they had the whole thing and said the rest
didn't work. I could use a second one if I can get a replacement battery,
or have it repaired cheaply.

I have fixed things by opening them, seeing the number of cells.
Cut them apart if necessary, remember it is busted junk.
>From the number of cells times 1.2 volts you can determing the voltage.
I solder wires to the old battery connector, string them out of the box, and
con;nect to another standard type of battery, or a FILTERED power supply;
of near the extimated voltage.
This worked on a type and speak, and that was actually all that was wrong with
it.
So eventually I found batteries to fit in the case. The hardest part was to
clip the old batteries out, and not damage the board.
