Hi
I just wondered if emacspeak and flite are working together and whether
anyone had got them working on a hand held device? I'm sure that I read
that emacspeak worked using flite but can't remember where I read it.
Could someone clarify the situation?
Many thanks
Gena

FLite can run on ARM-based systems, so it should be theoretically possible to use Emacspeak on a handheld (provided that you have sufficient storage), although no one has tried to do this that I know of. -- Michael Gorse / AIM:linvortex / http://mgorse.home.dhs.org -- ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 12+ messages in thread

Taken from the blinux web page. Blinux-list is a list intended for discussion of Linux usage as it relates to the blind and visually impaired community. What does Bzzt mean? Are you the list owner? Please specify what this list is for if not stated on the webpage: Linux for blind general discussion There's no mention of the hardware, nor specific software. A handheld list would be inappropriate as they'll be sighted people and have no idea what it is like to use speech. I'm thinking of moving to linux, and have gotten hold of the latest redhat 7.3 distribution, but was wondering how difficult it is to setup on a pc, if speak isn't available, but noticed in a message yesterday that someone said it's in the distribution of three, rh debian and slackware. so if I'm to use say rh 7.3 can I install it with speech from the cd? simonAt 23:05 12/05/2002 +0100, you wrote: > >Hi > >I'm sorry, why are you picking on me sone days after the posting. But there's only one distribution that comes with a speakup kernel as a part of the standard distribution and that is Slackware. However you can download the iso images from the speakup site and make your own CD's which will talk. You'll have to ask a Redhat user about the installation procedures although, I know that there's a good guide on the speakup site. One real problem is that emacspeak and emacs are fair sized programs. I've not yet seen either ported to handhelds, I've heard on excellent authority that this has been achieved with a 1Gb pcmcia card, I just don't have one. I'm currently using an ipaq 3850 with a foldable keyboard. I've been told that support for mmc/sd cards is currently being written. This will kind of double the available storage. 64Mb is just not enough. I'm a teacher of adults with severe learning difficulties, and whilst they can see, they mostly can't read well. best wishes jonathan http://www.peepo.com ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 12+ messages in thread
