Hi guys. I'm having a problem getting my doubletalk lt and screader to
work. Here's what I know.
In order for the doubltalk to speek the text that is sent to it, it needs
to have a "null" character sent to it. Well, with screader I don't think
it sends the required null character so it gets ignored. Does anyone know
how I can get this to work? I followed the installation instructions that
came with screader. It's just that the lt doesn't respond.

Well, if your tts says
`cat >/dev/cua0`
you might try something like
`(cat ;echo -e \00 ) >/dev/cua0`
or if a space is required rather than a null just say echo " "
instead.

Hope this helps.

Put something like the following in your /opt/etc/abt320/tts:

   (cat; echo -ne "\000") > /dev/cua1

If the null-character has to be in the front of the text, please
put first the echo command and then the cat command. Be sure these
commands need to be inside the () and must be separated by the ; token.
I've no DT myself so I don't know exactly where to put the ( and )
tokens. Maybe you have to put a \ before the " tokens.

      Regards,

           Jos.

I know Iblinux-list@redhat.comRe: lt and screader.
Hi there everyone. I know this question has probably been asked several
times before, and someone will undoubtedly get rather annoyed with me
<grin>

Does Screader work with the internal Dectalk PC? I have the Linux Dectalk
PC drivers already, and they work fine.

Thanks for your cooperation and toleration <g>.

Regards,

Hello Jason,

If something like:

    echo hello > /dev/cua0

works, then screader will also work.
Is that card of yours connected to a serial device?
I told this quite often. *grin*.

    Best Regards,

       Jos.

The Dectalk PC driver uses /dev/dtpc0 as its device name. It should be
transparently compatible with a Dectalk Express found on /dev/cua0 for
example.
