Hi, what distro has a clean Mate desktop without own menus, etc? Ubuntu
or Arch? Ubuntu has different panel / menus than Arch, which is
original? Both of these has accessibility issues, Arch menu icon text in
panel isn!t updated, for example Vlc media player accessibility icon
stays on the first played song, system updater shows your system is up
to date, but updates are awailable, the Ubuntu menu items are some
without accessibility label. I want to track Mate development, but I
don!t know, which distro to install.

Can you help?

Thanks,

Pavel

In Ubuntu, you can switch back to the default layout with a tool called
mate-tweak.

I personally always advise user to use Debian because we're trying to
provide accessibility out of the box.

Best regards,
Alex.

Arch has the latest and cleanest version of MATE that works with Orca. Fedora is
probably the next closest, but needs a lot of tweaking to make it work with
Orca, whereas its GNOME version works out of the box. If you're trying to follow
development of clean MATE, Arch is the way to go, as they just package upstream
without patches. Debian and Ubuntu are both heavily patched, and tend to be old.
So if you need to report a bug, it's harder to report them to the MATE
developers, since it's possible your bug has already been fixed, but hasn't yet
filtered down to your distro.

The Mate guy that develop on Fedora is aware of accessibility and would
appreciate bug report to make fixes for all.

Best regards,
Alex.
