Be sure to use the AucTeX mode of Emacs, with Emacspeak, when editing LaTeX files, as it provides a number of shortcuts for entering the formatting commands, allows you to typeset files and review any error messages that arise, and of course, as you would expect, Emacspeak announces the LaTeX commands in a different voice to distinguish them from the actual text.
