No. JAWS would not be able to work under wine, because it needs to load
a video intercept driver to intercept the image that gets displayed.
Since wine relies on X to display the Windows application, this is not
possible.
> also, is it possible to run brltty under cygwin?
I guess so. If the system ports that the Braille display is connected to
are accessible in Cygwin, I guess it should work. Note that you would
have to close any Windows app that also used the display.

Fedora Core 3 uses Gnome window manager and that comes with Gnopernicus
a screen reader which has a braille display option built-in

You can't, at least not that I know of. I remember hearing about how
some bioses could be made to send their screen dumps out the serial
port, but I don't know how this would be done, and what bioses can do
it.

That's not easy to answer since you don't say which BIOS. Even when you
see you need to look around to find the right selection. Ideally, the
BIOS would be configured to interact over serial or USB ports to connect
to speaking devices. Not all BIOSes support that option.

Maybe you could try Smart BootManager
http://btmgr.webframe.org
rather than modify BIOS to boot from CD ?

It's hard to say. You can only tell when you see it. It's usually
servers and better PC with such motherboards.
I'm sure that some motherboards with Intel chipset support it, IBM as
well as HP do too. I only work with servers so I can't say the same for
their workstations and laptops.
Don't you have somebody to tell us what motherboard you have so we can
search about it's BIOS info on the net.
What exactly are you trying to do? Run Knoppix from a CD or install OS?

Some more info about Smart BootManager from http://btmgr.webframe.org/:
Smart BootManager supports booting from almost all kinds of IDE ATAPI CD-ROM,
including PCMCIA CD-ROMs. You can let BIOS boot from C: only and assign a
password for it, then you can boot from CD-ROM with Smart BootManager easily,
while other guy couldn't. If you have a Laptop computer with a special PCMCIA
CD-ROM which BIOS does not support booting from, Smart BootManager can help you
make it easy!

Thank you! My motherboard is Assustek's P4S333VM.
Is this supported? If so, how do I to configure?
I need this feature for my rescue CD.

I checked Asus web site but the most critical pages seem to be broken or
at least tyheir windoze is saying so. Both technical and BIOS manuals
are missing.
Sorry I can't tell more looking at what's readable on that site.

I don't know about Fedora Core 3, but on 1 and 2, gnopernicus is very far
from being considered an option, I couldn't even figure out how to get it to
read it's own help mannual in mozilla, using Fedora Core 1. If you want to
install fedora core 3, why don't you try the speak-up modified distribution,
which has speakup built into the kernel for a talking installation if you
have a hardware synthesizer, and after installation, you can now configure
speakup to work with software speech. You can download it, or buy it from
www.cheapbytes.com
it's an 8-CD set.
