Hello,

On my homepage:

   http://www.jlemmens.nl/homepage/daisy_player-1.0.tar.gz

you can find version 1.0 of my daisy-player.
This version doesn't need lynx anymore.
Daisy-player only uses madplay to play the audio files.
Daisy-player now can skip forward and backward while playing.
Here is the help-screen to show the keys that can be used:

cursor down     - move cursor to the next item
cursor up       - move cursor to the previous item
cursor right    - skip 3 seconds forward
cursor left     - skip 3 seconds backward
page-down       - view next page
page-up         - view previous page
enter           - Start playing
space           - pause/resume playing
h or ?          - give this help
j               - just play this item
q               - quit daisy-player
s               - stop playing

Hi,

What about source code for this?  What about non-audio files like 
those from http://www.bookshare.org/ that are in DAISY format but 
text only?  Also, the particular player did not come installed with 
Debian although I'm sure it is available, so it is misleading to say 
that it comes with any Linux box.  Finally, what is the license?  You 
gave no copyright or license statement in the README file.

Attention:
I did used until now a static bin of Jos' DAISY-Player:
when puted in your /usr/local/bin + adding the next lien in /etc/mailcap 
causes the player to work correctly:
text/x-sh; sh %s > /dev/null 2>&1 &

I don't know if this is still necessary since it was destinated to Lynx.

No, this is not necessary anymore. Daisy-player now has its own browser
and don't uses lynx.

It would be helpful if you would specify what versions of DAISY your
player supports.

Also, is page navigation the only navigation your player supports? It
would be unfortunate if structural navigation is missing.

Hello David and others,

On www.jlemmens.nl is version 2.0 of daisy_player available.
This version supports all navigation which is available on a daisy-cd.
I only had, till now, daisy-cd's with versions 2.022 and 2.02.
Daisy_player works fine with these versions.

This new version can also play normal audio-cd';s. It will try to
get album-information from the freedb-server.

The cursor follows your commands so that you have direct response on
your braille-terminal.

Daisy_player uses the madplay-, the SDL-, and the curl-packages,
so be sure you have installed these packages. Most Linux-flavors
provide these on there INSTALL cd's.

Just to be clear:  the DAISY standard does make possible detailed navigation of a publication, however, the navigation structure must be included by the producer of the book.  

Traditionally, the player developers, both hardware and software have supported more navigation than most book producers have coded into their publications.

This is because it is a lot of work, and the book production tools are still developing * I think.
