Hello,
I'm the Webmaster for the site for our nonp0rofit organization,
http://www.chpi.org . Recently it has been pointed out that we might get
more orders if the site were more visually appealing. I'm not sure what
"visually appealing" means, since people don't seem to be able to put it
into words. However, I'm wondering what tools other blind linux webmasters
use to achieve these effects.
Do you recommend any particular editor that hs html-savvy?
Do you use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets0?
How do you get images positioned properly on the page?
Is javascript really necessary, or is it just for creating frills?
tghanks,
John

what are you doing now? It is most likely that all you need to do is ask
these people to provide you witha site that they consder appealing and use
the tools you have to replicate something similar. Visually appealing is
highly subjective and no one will be satisfied all of the time. I suggest
you post this question after joining on the way interest group mailing list
which can be found at:

You could check your colors out for one thing. I've been told golden rod
is a very attractive background color; that's yello with a stripe of gold
running through it. It's a type of paper you can buy from stationery
stores too. When I asked if mint green and brown would look good on
golden rod, I was told that both mint green and brown would look very nice
and both would also contrast really well. This is from another sighted
federal employee regularly involved in document production.

Hi John,
What is "visually appealing"? When someone tells you that, ask for
specifics. What characteristics, specifically, would cause more orders to
be placed? Unfortunately, they do make a good point; most sighties are
extremely shallow. On the other hand, you provide products and services for
blind people, so the "visually appealing" factor should certainly not
apply... :-)
