The image that I use, for my talking rescue disk,
is at the bottom of this page.

http://www.eklhad.net/linux/jupiter

Course it runs the jupiter speech system,
which is not as well known as the others,
so you may not be familiar with it.

The nice thing about this system is,
it's only 30 meg,
not 700 meg,
and that can help a lot if you're using a slower connection to the internet.

Karl

Oralux has to interface options, 1. emacspeak and 2. YASR

I find YASR much easier to use than emacspeak. YASR has a very nice editor and browser that are more user friendly than emacs. Even with emacspeak, once you learn a few keyboard commands its not too bad. JAWS for Windows is a good comparison. Emacs is complex due to its large array of abilities. Just learn them a few steps at a time. I found the O'Reilly book helpful. Emacs online turorial is also an option.

Jeff

// Yeah, but emacspeak is a lot more confusing than speakup.

I have found that Oralux 0.6 alpha is quite functional. It is easy to setup initially and your setting can be saved to floppy or hard disk. It doesn't interfere with the regular operation of your PC at all.

Hi all!

I would like to know what other bootable CD or mini versions of Linux there
are that can come up talking? I know there is Mandrake move as a bootable
version off a CD and uses a flash drive for data and settings; but that's
not necessarily speech or brl friendly. Oralux was meant to be but I saw or
read a lot of reliability issues. So comments or thoughts on these multiple
threads welcome.
