OK, I believe you wish to write PDF files. What you should do is read a book I have written at:
http://www.saqib-shaikh.freeserve.co.uk
which teaches you all about LaTeX. Having read this, you should write the document in LaTeX in a text editor such as Emacs, VIm, Jo, etc. Then use
latex filename.tex
which will create filename.dvi
then use
dvipdf filename.dvi filename.pdf
which will give you the pdf file you wish, just like using acrobat writer under mswindows.
hope this helps

hi,
I must recommand and complement the auther of the latex-manual (see
below) for a job well done.
I've downloaded it and converted it to a text-version via wrod2x.
I have looked around often enough for a document like this and I'm very
pleased to have found it finally.
well done!
